News: Global Compact for Migration

The road to the Global Compact for Migration has entered its second phase. The Stocktaking Phase runs from Nov. 2017 to Jan. 2018, and begins with a preparatory meeting held in Puerto Vallarta from 4-6 Dec. 2017. More information about the meeting, including a concept note, is available on the event's web site. A livestream link is also provided.

The United States announced over the weekend that it would no longer participate in the Global Compact and thus will not be attending the conference in Mexico. Here is the State Department's statement and the U.S. Mission to the UN's statement. See also this Foreign Policy article.
